Origins and development

Laid out from 1798 and dedicated in 1800, the cemetery expanded repeatedly. The administration building, urn grove and chapel west of Stationsweg date from 1901, 1907 and 1928. The city took it over in 1904; most of the grounds have been protected since 1984.

Origins: Laid out from 1798; dedicated on 15 May 1800. The cemetery is in Poppelsdorf, at Kreuzberg, at Servitenweg, 53127 Bonn. Its area is approximately 12.65 hectares.

Design and present-day character

A historic hillside cemetery at Kreuzberg, with mature trees and old and new sections on either side of Stationsweg.

Read this character description together with the development of Poppelsdorf Cemetery: it identifies what gives the grounds their present identity without turning the cemetery into a purely historical attraction. A visit can focus on spatial structure and named orientation points while leaving individual graves undisturbed.

Connect the account with the grounds

The cemetery map contains 9 named places for Poppelsdorf Cemetery. Among them are Pedestrian gate, Cemetery chapel, Clemens-August-Platz. Use these names to relate the historical account to locations visible during a visit, without assuming that every historical feature has its own marker.
